Day 31

Well I achieved my two goals and a little bit more.

I walked just shy of 10km in 2 hours so was pretty stoked with that.

My dearest husband brought me flowers at the end of week one  with a card telling me he lived me and was so proud of me.  🤩

After week four my dearest husband drove me to Timaru for afternoon tea.

Today was a day I will never forget.

Have 😍 every minute of what I have achieved.

Luv Deb ❤️ 🩷❤️🩷

Day 29

Super proud of our team effort as well as my own personal one.  Knowing that our contributio will help make a difference to others warms my heart ❤️.

To my genuinely kind husband who has been on this journey with me thank you so much.  I am fearless when you are with me and my personal worry disappears for a while.

To all you folk out there with heart disease, ..... this is my gift from me to you.

To all my family, friends and work colleagues thank you, thank you, thank you.   I am truly humbled by your support and generosity. BUT it's not over just yet it's still May and I still have work to do.  Tomorrow I'm having a wee afternoon tea party for our team because two nanas have been jollied along by 4 year Isla and has definitely put a spring in our steps.  LUV Deb ❤️

Day 28

Thanks to Sandra and Isla for walking me halfxway home today.  What a month we have had.

Between the 3 of us we have raised over $2,000 which I'd amazing.

Have loved every minute of it.  Thanks ladies.
Deb 😊

Day 24

Sorry I haven't posted fir a while, I've been busy at work then out walking and trying to get some rest.

I'm trying to get my chronic pain under control.  The walking does help a bit but I am motivated to get to mu finish line.

Today my darling husband David joined me.  He keeps me motivated every day.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, send messages and who has supported myself and my team mates, Sandra and Isla.

I have promised Sandra that I want to buy Isla a pretty dress for helping our team, morning tea and she can take Cyril my cane for a walk.  🙃❤️

Day 17

Over half way.  We have been in Gore fir a few days break with a quick visit to Invercargill.
Now ready to hit week 3 running to smash out more kilometers.
Subject to my neurogenic fatigue staying at bay, I am going to attempt walking a marathon walk in one day.  I'm pretty confident I can do it but will be keeping an eye on my blood pressure over the coming week to make sure it is stable in the safe zone and to ensure I am fatigue free.
I am extremely humbled by the words of encouragement and support.  Thank you to you all.  Luv Deb ❤️

Day 14

I am so motivated and proud of myself.  After a long 13 hour day at work, by golly gosh I have walked two marathons in two weeks.  🙃
My neurogenic fatigue has taken my advice and gone on holiday whilst I carry on.
I had a 13 hour shift at work today but feeling okay.
Had given Cyril, my brail cane a couple of days off but he will be back tomorrow as unfortunately my eyesight has dropped and doesn't seem to be recovering the past 2 days.
Tomorrow is another day cause .... along with my team mates ...WE HAVE GOT THIS 🙃❤️
Thanks everyone for the continued support.   Luv Deb and Cyril

Day 13

I managed 7km today.  Feeling a bit more energized as I have been struggling with four days of neurogenic fatigue.  I'm SUPER excited as I'm approximately 6km km short of my half way mark of 175km.  I know I will get there.  With the support of my family, friends and colleagues, together with my own self belief, I've got the quadruple walked marathon in one month.
It's now time for rest and sleep to let my body recover.
Luv Deb ❤️

Day 9 & 10

And I keep on moving along despite a 12 hour shift at work.  Another 4km today but enjoying the challenge.

I can't say it enough, thank you, thank you, thank you for all the love and support, it is extremely motivating.

I am under doctors orders to take my BP daily and today, it couldn't get much better than 123/82. Hopefully gone are the days when it was 220/150.

The other good news I've shed 2.2kg in 9 days.

Day 8

Still struggling today with my fatigue but I've dug deep, walked 7km, worked a full day but 8pm I'm off to bed as I have a 12 hour shift at work tomorrow.

I've been overwhelmed this week, firstly by the amazing support, unconditional ❤️  of my husband, David but also from colleagues, friends and members of the public.  Thank you so much, you all make my efforts seem easy.

Amazing work by my team mates, Sandra and beautiful wee Isla.  You girls rock!

.Luv Debs xx

Day 7

Excited I have walked my first marathon ever but I knew my neurogenic fatigue would eventually catch me.  A rough day but still managed to hit the pavement.

Day 6

Today I hit a brick wall with my neurogenic fatigue but was able to manage another 4km so over 46km now.  Early start again tomorrow.

I am extremely grateful and humbled by the support I have received.  If you see me, Sandra and Isla out hitting the pavement be sure to give us a toot or wave.  Have enjoyed having a chat with some members of the public.  Luv Deb ❤️

Day 5

Just over 7 km today.  Three walks today in between my day at work.  Had a couple of people stop me in the supermarket congratulating 🎊 me on my efforts and saying they have seen me out on the highway walking.

Thanks to my co-worker Sandra for hanging out with me on our lunch walk.  We have joined up as Nanas Unite and we are very blessed to have Sandra's granddaughter, Isla to be part of our team and keep us gals in check.  🙃😊

Day 4

Sooo proud of myself today.  Clocked up just over 8km.  I enjoyed myself and found my inner strength to get to my new daily record.  I am determined to reach my goal.

One of the highlights of this journey is talking to the people I meet along the way.   I am very humbled by people's positive comments.

I just want to do my bit, which I hope will make a difference for people living with heart disease.  Luv Deb ❤️

Day 3

Today was a bit challenging for me as neurogenic fatigue set in.  Unfortunately this is one of my past stroke demons that rears its ugly head from time to time so I've only managed 2.5km today so kind of a rest day.  Watch out for me tomorrow as I plan to step things up and reach my half marathon goal tomorrow.  I gave Cyril the day off, he's a bit worn out!

Day 2

Went out of town for the day to catch up with my beautiful big sister, Maria and awesome brother in law Adrian.  Thanks for the donation sis.  Luv ya dearly.  David and I had the best day catching up with family and a few friends along the way that we had a spring in our step and accelerated our efforts to just over 8km walking in a town, which once was home and where we met 40 years ago.

Day 1

Thank you to those who have donated so far to an organization that is very close to my ❤️.  I started off with just over 5km today.  If you see me out with my trustee brail cane Cyril, give us a toot.

My Story

From my high school days (1980s) I enjoyed helping mu elders where I volunteered doing tasks they struggled with.  All these years on I still find time to help others.

I am now faced with my own challenges having had multiple strokes and have heart disease also.

The NZ Heart Foundation are an amazing organization and I want to support them by signing up to walk a marathon, health permitting I my even do it twice between now and the end of May.

As a result of my own medical events I am further challenged by the fact that I am legally blind in the right of both eyes and have low vision, so for my own safety, I will have my trusted brail cane, Cyril guiding me on my journey.

So while I dust off my walking shoes 👞 I better organize am extra shoe for Cyril because his shoe is my guide.

All I ask of you is if you have some spare change to help me reach my target of $1,000 to help an organization that supports many New Zealanders I will be eternally grateful.   Luv Deb 🙂

Support my challenge to save Kiwi hearts

This May, I’m taking part in MyMarathon to raise funds for heart research that will help save lives.

Every 90 minutes, a person dies of heart disease. It's the single biggest killer in New Zealand, and I want to do something to support the thousands of Kiwis whose lives are impacted by this disease every single day.

Please make a donation to support my challenge and help save Kiwi hearts.

Together, we can win the race against heart disease.

Thank you!
