Training wheels off! Ripping into May!

Training wheels off and ripping into May

After clocking up 51km for MyMarathon in April, the organisers have decided to deem those as training distances and that only kilometres from May 1st count.
I guess they had to level the playing field for people starting on May 1st.  I'm not too worried as I was going to extend my goal anyway, but wanted to update anyone who was curious why my total dropped to zero.
And notably the organisers haven't zero-ed the donations total in the same way! Haha!
Thanks again to my wonderful supporters who have already donated ... Gary, Fiona, Catriona, Mum, Jeanne, Bessie and Pete.  It's so encouraging to get those donations rolling in for heart research in New Zealand.
Looking forward to raising more funds from more wonderful generous family and friends and working towards my $1000 goal for the Heart Foundation by the end of May!!
I'm dedicating my effort to all those among my whanau and friends who have lost loved ones to heart disease or who just want to remember lost loved ones in this way. Arohanui.

Stress less for heart health!

Heart health challenges are certainly humbling and salutary!
And it's too easy to under-estimate the damage to your body from too much stress.  Stress impacts seem to accumulate quietly until you suddenly realise you have a problem.
I find managing stress needs to be a big part of my healthy heart journey.  SLEEP is vital for a happy heart and I need good sleep routines as a top priority. Turning off the bright ipad screen with latest Netflix obsession before 11pm is my strategy.
Learning to sit back, relax and breathe is so vital, and getting out in nature, walking on the beach or in the bush is my favourite stress release!
To really try to slow down, I'm learning nature journaling and water colour painting.  I can take that outside and it helps me slow right down and pay attention to the details of nature's amazingly complex creations.
If I don't get good sleeps my heart soon let's me know it's not happy with the stress levels!

Today was to Ebike ... or not to Ebike!

Despite my best intentions, I had a frustrating ebike outing today!  The saga started well enough ... I spent an hour preparing for my long ebike ride. Checked tyres and battery. Checked I had helmet and ebattery. Prepped and cleaned the trailer. Padlocked it to the car. Loaded and tied down my beautiful red E-bike.
I took Pete's trusty old BMW as it has a towbar and drove 20 mins to the Orewa Estuary park that is a great starting point for the cycleways in the area. Backed the trailer (!) into a park. Unloaded bike - went to put on ebattery but oops, I had left the vital key to lock it in, at home by the battery charger 😖 !!
I phoned and implored Hubby to drop everything and bring key 🥰 He arrived with a smile and the key and took off back to work 🥰🙏🥰🙏. Popped in the battery, jumped on bike, and (oh no!) realised that only an hour later both tyres were flat! 😱😰
Called local bike shop who  said that probably the inner tubes had died, so I resolutely drove there, only to find it was super busy, (school holidays) and I couldn't find a park anywhere nearby for my long wheelbase trailer rig!
Lost the will to live! (or at least go on) and drove home.   So hoping to get new inner tubes and at the moment, either sell the ebike and rely on hired ebikes ... or try again soon!?

Lets open our purse and raise our pulse for Kiwi Hearts!!

This May, I’m taking part in MyMarathon to raise funds for heart research that will help save lives.

Every 90 minutes, someone dies of heart disease. It's the single biggest killer in New Zealand!   I want to actively support the thousands of Kiwis whose lives are impacted by this condition every day.

Please make a donation to support my challenge and help save Kiwi hearts.

Together, we can win the race against heart disease.

Thank you!  <3>
