Today I was reminded that on the 10th May this year it should of been dads 54th birthday. Last October was one year since we lost dad to heart disease. 

He lived an amazing life but also a challenged one, from getting rheumatic fever at a young age which further developed into heart disease. He had a placemaker put in and had his valves replaced. Unfortunately, towards the last few years of his life he started to be in and out of hospital every few months. He was put on the heart transplant list with the hope that it would change his life. He had a big lifestyle change and needed to get fit enough for this surgery and when that day finally came forward, they believed his body would regect the heart. He died 3 weeks later. 

I decided that there is more awareness needed and support for the heart foundation, as my dad still managed to have 52 years of his life thanks to the doctors and support he was given. 

I would love if you could support me along this journey, as running isn’t my thing but I’ll make it my thing to do something in honour of my dad.

This May, I’m taking part in MyMarathon to raise funds for heart research that will help save lives.

Every 90 minutes, a person dies of heart disease.

Heart disease is the single biggest killer in New Zealand, and I want to do something to support the thousands of Kiwis whose lives are impacted by this disease every single day.
