Day 31 update

So today is the last day of the challenge and after starting with a goal of doing 170km in the month I've completed a total of 360km. This was finished today with a 15km bike ride at the gym first thing this morning followed by doing the 5km from home to mitre 10 to catch up with friends for coffee and then the 5km return.
Interesting facts from the challenge saw me do a total of 161km on the bike, which was Interesting as in the past I've never paid any attention to the kilometers I've done as it has always been based on the time of an episode of something I'm watching which varies between 45 and 50 minutes. I've always been more interested in the number of steps the time has related to.  This meant that the other 199km was made up from my walks, using the treadmill at the gym, my fast walks and Japanese walking from my YouTube channels I follow.   The other interesting fact it that very the month I did an additional 15.57km of what I call incidental walking, which would include walking from the train station to work and back, walking around the office, home and supermarket

Day 30 update

Well have managed 20km today. Did 14km on the bike at the gym first thing this morning and have just done from home to the top of the Wainui hill and back which was a total of 6km and I was impressed that I managed to do this in an hour as the Hutt side of the hill is reasonably steep. Decided that with my next challenge being to do the Mitre 10 mega 10km Wainui hill walk in September I should start to get in some training as currently most of my walking is on the flat.

Day 29 update

One of the advantages of having a day off is that I've managed to get in my kilometers for the day nice an early with 16km on the bike and 2km on the treadmill and then finishing off with using the hydrochair and sauna

Day 28 update

Today saw me complete another 8km. This including a 3.40km Japanese walking workout before work, the a 4km lunchtime walk in the sunshine along the waterfront and ending the day with my walk home from the train station

Day 27 update

Well today has seen me getting in another 8km. This was made up with a 3km inspired health YouTube fast walk before work. Then a nice 4km walk along the waterfront at lunchtime and then my walk home from the station

Day 26 update

While I worked from home today, was the one Tuesday of the month where due to having to get one task done for work early I wasn't able to get to the gym, however once I had completed my work task I was able to get out for a 5km morning walk as the sun was coming up. I also got out in the sunshine at lunchtime for another 4km walk.

Day 25 update

Well today's theme for my walks was walking near water, starting with my lunchtime walk along the Wellington waterfront and then the walk along the Harbour walk to Petone going home. Along with the walk from the train station to home have done 10km today

Day 24 update

Today I did 17km on the bike at the gym.  With one week to go on this challenge I've now completed 260km, with an aim of getting to 300km

Day 23 update

Well today after thinking I was only going to get the 4km I did first thing this morning on the treadmill, have managed to get in an additional 3km this afternoon when the sun came out

Day 22 update

So with having a day off work have got in a nice 10km walk this morning in the lovely sunshine. Started at the Petone train station after catching the bus down from Maungaaraki and then walked along the foreshore and riverbank to home.

Day 21 Update

Today saw me complete another 7km. This was made up with a 6km walk at lunchtime time from home and along the riverbank, some of which was into a gusty wind making for a bit more of a challenge.  I then did another 1km walk after work when I parked at the riverbank and 2alked over to the Lower Huttvnight market to check out the food trucks and get dinner

Day 20 update

Well today has been a quieter day with only doing 5km.  This was a nice 3km walk at lunchtime and then a 2km walk home,  with most of it up hill as I'm currently housesitting for a friend

Day 19 update

One of my reasons for doing this challenge is that 20 years ago today my wonderful Nana passed away after suffering a heart attack so today's 14km on the bike at the gym this morning are dedicated to her.

Day 18 update

Today has seen me do 8.5km. I was pleased that I still got in a walk at lunchtime as we had an all day offsite, so I wasn't sure I'd get time today.   I also got off the train at Ngauranga this afternoon to do the walk to Petone.  Was great seeing it being well utilized with people walking and cycling in both directions.

Day 17 update

Today saw me at the gym bright and early where I did 13km on the bike and 2km on the treadmill.

Day 16 update

Today I've done 12.25km. This was one walk this morning along the brand new Petone to Ngauranga walkway. The actual walk along the sea front is about 4.5km each way, however had parked the car at the train station which added kilometers.  Was a great way to start the day and was lovely seeing so many people enjoying this great asset to the community

Day 15 update

Well at the half way point of the challenge I've completed 165km. Today saw me at the gym first thing this morning where I did 14km on the bike and then had a nice crisp 3km walk home. What has surprised me so far with this challenge is how many kilometers I do in a week , what with normal walks (morning, lunchtime & after work walks) and the kilometers I do on the bike when I go to the gym.

Day 14 updat

One of the bonuses of working from home I was able to go to the gym this morning and do 15.60km on the bike before doing 3km walking home. Was a great way to start the day.

Day 13

Today I've done 8km.  This started with my Japanese walking workout before work,  then a walk through the Boulton Street cemetery and the botanical gardens at lunchtime and then my walj home from the train station

Day 12

Have done 8km today. Started with a Improved Health YouTube channel 2km fast walj before work, then a leisurely 5km lunchtime walk along the waterfront in the sunshine and finishing with 1km walk home

Day 11

Today have done 6km and changed it up for my lunchtime walk,  instead of going for a walk along the waterfront walked up to nearly the gardens so a lot of up hill walking.

Day 10

Today I have done 15km on the bike at the gym

Day 9

Today has been a more sedate day with only doing 5km. This was made up of 4km on the treadmill and then a 1km walking around the mall.

Day 8

So when I decided to do this challenge, I thought it would take me the whole month to do 85km and then after doing 30km in the first three days,  I decided to give myself a bigger challenge and try for 170km for the month.  I may have to revise this again as without having made any changes to what I do on a weekly basis I've already done 86km in the first 8 days. Today has been my quietest day with only doing 6km.

Day 7

So today's effort has been 9km. This was made up by a YouTube Get Fit with Rick 3km Japanese walk before work, then a 4km walk along the Wellington waterfront at lunchtime and finished off with a 2km walj home from the train station.

Day 6

So today have only done 7km. This was made up with a 3km at home walk before going to work, a 2km lunchtime walk and then a 2km walk home from the train station.

Day 5

So today I've did 15km on the bike at the gym this morning.  Didn't manage to get any additional walking done though.

Day 4

Today I changed things uo a bit and did 12km on the bike at the gym this morning and then a 3km walk this afternoon for a total of 15km for the day. Have already completed the equivalent of one marathon in the first 4 days of the challenge

Day three

So today I've completed another 14km and have also updated the number of kilometers I want to do to now 170km or just over the equivalent of 4 marathons. Have already completed 34km in the first 3 days so am on track. Today I've done three different walks the first one was just under 2km which was walking from where I'm housesitting to home. The second was just over 8km along the Petone waterfront which is one of my favorite walks. This afternoon was a 4km walk which was a bit more of a challenge as it was taking in the popular Te Whiti Riser which really got the heart pumping.

Support my challenge to save Kiwi hearts

This May, I’m taking part in MyMarathon to raise funds for heart research that will help save lives.

Every 90 minutes, a person dies of heart disease. It's the single biggest killer in New Zealand, and I want to do something to support the thousands of Kiwis whose lives are impacted by this disease every single day.

Please make a donation to support my challenge and help save Kiwi hearts.

Together, we can win the race against heart disease.

Thank you!
