Heart Ache Holyoake Finishes his 'Run!'

31 May and I am adding up the numbers.  What an amazing month.   I thought I would add a few hundred dollars to the cause and tentatively set $420 as a target to match the distance.  I've changed that target a couple of times and the last one of $2500 is long gone as I now approach $3000 with just hours to go. Somehow I have become among the top 20 of the 7000 fundraisers.  That is due to you - my supporters.  Friends, neighbours, relatives, old police mates, and Rotarians from all around the world.  THANK-YOU ALL.  (As if adding a dimension, our son had to take an ambulance to hospital yesterday with further heart problems.  Now recovered I know my funds will be well used by the Heart Foundation.)

This May, I’m taking part in MyMarathon to raise funds for heart research that will help save lives.

Every 90 minutes, a person dies of heart disease. It's the single biggest killer in New Zealand, and I want to do something to support the thousands of Kiwis whose lives are impacted by this disease every single day.

Please make a donation to support my challenge and help save Kiwi hearts.

Together, we can win the race against heart disease.

Thank you!

Sunday 3 May

I've now walked 6km which is but a small start.  Fundraising though, has been unbelievable.   In around 24 hours i had reached something like $500 and am now just under $800.  They not only come from NZ friends & family, but also Rotary Club and family friends from US, UK and Canada.  I am just "staggered!"   And grateful.

Thanks.

Friday 8 May

This began for me as a way of adding to my usual annual donation to the Heart Foundation and especially because in the past 12  months both my son and my wife had suffered heart attacks and each were flown to Wellington for heart surgery.   I figured Ii might get a few hundred extra dollars.  In 24 hours we had $500; in a week $1000 and now coming up $1500 in eight days.  And the donors are not just local people but also Rotary friends from US, UK and Europe.  My family and I are overcome - and thankful. Oh, and I've now covered 15km in my marathon!
