Knocked the Bastard Off

Passed 200km yesterday, dropped 3.5kg, lowered my blood pressure and raised $812. Pretty happy about that :)

Dropping behind the required run rate

Finding 90 minutes a day to walk can be hard. I don't count general daily movement like those steps you take getting from the couch to the fridge. I've only been counting dedicated walking time. I have included walking from the car park building to work as I deliberately park well away from work to build in some steps.
Anyway, missing a day or falling behind a couple of days in a row can have a big impact and that happened this week. So today I walked Eddie then headed to town to pick up a few things. Parked in Thorndon and ended up walking 8km. Good to get the steps in and saved on petrol and parking :) So now I've just crept back up above the line.

Holding the Line

Following my progress is like watching the batting team chase in a one-day cricket match. Was hoping to be well above the line but keeping close enough for a couple of boundaries in the final few overs :)

Catch up mode

Not a good week this week. Off to a good start but had trouble making time for walks later in the week. Keeping on track means about 70-90 minutes a day, so missing one day puts the pressure on to catch up. Anyway, walked 6.8km with Eddie this morning. Coincidentally Puku Pies in J'Ville is 3,4km from home and they do a mean Jalapeño and Beef Brisket pie :)

Walking on work days

Two walks today, one around lunch time and another at 5:30pm. Easy enough when working from home. Tomorrow scheduling will be a bit tougher as I will be in town for work and have a class after work. An early start I think.

Saving Petrol

Two walks today, first was walking to and from the gym in J'Ville, gets the steps in and save petrol :)

Second walk around Wellington waterfront in the afternoon. Very nice day for it and nice stop at Rosie's for a taco lunch

Does walking to poker count?

Three walks today, first with Eddie was slow and gentle. Next with Katrina, just over 6km at a medium to brisk pace. Next, I'm counting walking to poker :)

Had an interesting encounter with a 90 year old chap today at Waikanae Beach. I was using my drone for fishing and he was very interested so I showed him how it worked and he stayed and we chatted  for about 40 minutes. Then, as I was about to launch the drone again, he wandered away and fell to the ground.
I hope he is alright and managed to get up again.
Just kidding, I called 111 and Wellington Free Ambo were there in about 10 minutes. Luckily Warren was conscious and responding when I left him with the paramedics.
Made me think, I want to be walking along the beach when I'm 90 too, just like Warren but maybe without the collapsing bit.

Goal setting

Started today with two 3km walks. First was pretty easy, walking Eddie and he had a lot of pee-mails to read so it was gentle. Second was at a brisk pace and felt really good. Got me thinking, I need to bump up the goal so increased from 100km to 200km.

Support my challenge to save Kiwi hearts

This May, I’m taking part in MyMarathon to raise funds for heart research that will help save lives.

Every 90 minutes, a person dies of heart disease. It's the single biggest killer in New Zealand, and I want to do something to support the thousands of Kiwis whose lives are impacted by this disease every single day.

Please make a donation to support my challenge and help save Kiwi hearts.

Together, we can win the race against heart disease.

Thank you!
