Running for Life: Supporting Heart Health and Protecting Young Lives
When my daughter was 21, our family’s life was turned upside down by a sudden and life-threatening case of endocarditis. What began as a severe bacterial infection quickly led to devastating inflammation of her mitral valve, forcing her into the ICU twice for emergency stabilization.
The infection severely damaged her heart valves and even caused a brain abscess. It was a terrifying time when her life hung in the balance.
We are eternally grateful for the marvels of modern medicine and the incredible medical team at Auckland Hospital. Thanks to their expertise and dedicated care, my daughter was given a second chance at life and has since made a full recovery.
To ensure other young people have the same chance at survival, I am participating in MyMarathon. I am combining my passion for running with a mission to raise vital funds for heart health in New Zealand. These donations will help drive medical advancements and empower our hospitals to provide life-saving treatment to more patients.
